In an effort to cut oil losses, Zhenghe Petrochemical Group Co Ltd has taken efforts to improve its raw material transportation management model since the beginning of the year. The efforts include scrutinizing each step in the raw material transportation process, from shipping and sampling to transporting and unloading.
The company processes a variety of crude oil from multiple channels, resulting in an extensive and long transportation process. Cutting oil losses during transportation is the first step to full utilization of resources. Working towards this goal, the company adopted the DMAIC methodology to analyze data and variables during crude transportation. The analysis discovered six major aspects that can be factored into cutting oil losses – loading wharfs, tankers, sampling methods, oil water content, density and temperature. The company has devised viable ways to improve based on the discovery.
In order to cut oil losses during transportation, the company will strictly follow loading procedures, monitor delivery sites and tankers, test oil samples, keep warehouse-out balance and check lead seals. The company will also track and monitor the oil transportation process using vehicle positioning systems to prevent en route oil adulteration and theft.
